So you want to buy a guitar?!
So, the day had finally arrived when I saved enough to buy my first Electric Guitar. It represented an energizing yet overwhelming experience. While I began playing guitar, I didn't have a clue as to what to search for in an electric or Acoustic Guitar. I had begun playing around with my friend's Electric Guitar during the first six months that I had started playing but simply didn't have a clue as to what I wanted to buy. I couldn't really tell the difference between an inexpensive electric guitar and a genuinely valuable one.
I've decided to convey some quick tips to help you decide what type of guitar you should buy. Hopefully this helps you to avoid the pitfalls and mistakes many first time guitar buyers make. The better The Guitar, the better chance you have of becoming a guitar wizard! I can safely say this after playing for 25 years now!
The first question you need to ask yourself is, "what's your budget?". This is by far the biggest determining factor in your quest for a new axe. Guitars generally follow the rule; the "higher the cost, the better the quality". If you are able to merely afford $500, do not go directly to the $1500 guitars and play those because you could potentially be dreadfully disappointed once you come back to your price range. Once you have determined your price range, play as many guitars in that price range you can. It has to feel good for you to be guitar wizard!
At this point in time ignoring the brand of The Guitar is probably best. Like all industries, there are certain brands of guitars that have more solid reputations than others. Simply because a certain brand of guitar doesn't have the best reputation doesn't mean it isn't going to be the best guitar for you. I had a friend who was a great guitarist and was in the marketplace for a brand-new guitar. He was prepared to spend quite a bit of money but after he spent a few weeks playing different guitars, he decided on a cheaper guitar made by a company who was more well known for making pianos, not guitars. He just loved the sound and how it felt in his hand. Buy the guitar that feels best in your hand – when buying your first guitar this is the #1 thing I tell people. Simply buy the guitar that most makes you want to pick it up and play because of the way it feels in your hand. Musicians often have this "sixth sense" when it comes to how they connect with instruments and this is definitely true with guitars. I have felt this way with all of the guitars I have purchased that there was something intangible about that guitar that I just connected with and it felt great in my hands. If you find that guitar for you, stop looking, you've found your next guitar!
